December’s one of those months where you’re either flat out trying to keep up with 'silly season'... or you’ve mentally checked out until the new year.

I'm not going to tell you which one I am and I won't make you either... but either way, it’s worth knowing what’s coming up so you don’t miss some easy engagement wins (and so you can plan when to actually take a break).

Here are the key dates worth keeping an eye on this December - plus a few ideas for how to use them in your content.

Festive and Fun Dates

  • 1st December – Start of AdventGreat excuse for a countdown, giveaway, or advent-style tips series.

  • 3rd December – International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Share something about accessibility or inclusion if it fits your brand.

  • 5th December – International Volunteer Day. Perfect if you support or collaborate with charities and community projects.

  • Thursday 11th December – Christmas Jumper Day (Save the Children). An easy, light-hearted content day. Team selfies, pet jumpers, or a charity shoutout all work well!

  • Mid-month payday (varies) Some people get their main December wage mid-month, so expect spending (and engagement) to spike. It’s a great time for last-minute gift pushes or festive offers.

  • Wednesday 18th December – Last posting date for Royal Mail 2nd Class

  • Friday 20th December – Last posting date for Royal Mail 1st Class. Shoppers get nervous about delivery times around now, so make sure your cut-offs are clearly shown everywhere, consider a pinned post on your social media profiles.

  • 21st December – Winter Solstice. The shortest day of the year - ideal for cosy, reflective, or self-care themed content!

  • 24th–26th December – Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day. Whether you’re posting a “Merry Christmas” message, showing a behind-the-scenes snap, or officially signing off for the year, keep it simple and genuine.

  • 31st December – New Year’s Eve. Round-up time! Reflect on your wins, share lessons learned, or tease what’s coming next. Yes you can use the 'and with that the 2025 season officially comes to an end' audio...!

Planning Tips for December Content

If your business slows down in December, use that quieter spell wisely:

  • Batch January content (you’ll thank yourself later).

  • Review what worked and what didn’t this year.

  • Plan next year’s goals before the rush hits again.

And if you’re one of the busy ones running festive promotions, focus on clear messaging: deadlines, gift options, and reassurance. The last thing you want is a customer panicking about delivery times on Christmas Eve.

December can be chaotic, but it’s also full of opportunities to connect with your audience in a more human, festive way. Keep things warm, personal, and easy - and you’ll head into the new year on a high note.
